Telcoin Digital Asset Bank president Patrick Gerhart told crypto.news that stablecoin issuers face a narrow window before the GENIUS Act's expected January 18, 2027 effective date, with federal or state licensing required for market access. He said the hardest part won't be policy paperwork but proving that compliance, reserves, and technology function as one integrated operating system under real conditions, drawing on lessons from Telcoin's own path to its Nebraska digital asset depository charter. A related deadline hits in July 2028, after which platforms generally can't offer unapproved stablecoins to US customers, meaning issuers and platforms alike are being urged to start reviewing compliance, reserve, and reporting systems now.
