Telcoin Digital Asset Bank President: Community Banks Need Stablecoins Built for Banking

Patrick Gerhart, President of Telcoin Digital Asset Bank, told CCN that most US banks currently lack the resources to build digital asset capabilities internally, positioning regulated stablecoin infrastructure as the more practical path to adoption for community banks. Gerhart said Telcoin Digital Asset Bank helped shape state-level regulation for the asset class from scratch rather than adapting to existing rules, building on the Nebraska Innovation Act the company helped develop in 2021. He argued that most stablecoins on the market today are designed to operate outside the traditional banking system, creating trust and security issues for local and regional banks, and that Telcoin's eUSD is intended to close that gap by being built specifically for banking. Gerhart noted that roughly one in five Americans currently own digital assets, and said Telcoin Digital Asset Bank is positioned to bring the rest of the country onboard, from community banks to local businesses and everyday users. Following the recent launch of its onchain bank accounts, Gerhart said the company plans to continue expanding regulated digital banking services, including additional payment capabilities and new banking features, through the remainder of 2026.
